BREAKING: Democrat Caught Red-Handed in Crime

October 22, 2017

A New York Democratic congressional candidate dropped out of the running on Tuesday after he was caught trying to “redistribute the wealth.”

Steven Brisee, who sought the Democratic nomination for the Empire State’s 19th Congressional district, was arrested on several charges, including grand larceny after he allegedly attempted to shoplift approximately $1,500 of clothing from a Kohl’s department store.
Brisee, 27, also faced a trespass charge after being caught staying in an empty home without permission in Kerhonkson, New York, on Sept. 9.

A funding problem?

The official reason Brisee gave for discontinuing his Congressional bid was a problem with campaign finances. He did not bring up the criminal charges. Brisee said he “raised roughly $850 and spent roughly $18,000, the difference being candidate contributions,” he told the local Daily Freeman in an email.

He posted a series of tweets, saying:
"As someone on the spectrum, the fact Thomas Jefferson was thought to be autistic gave me hope. But social skills needed to connect with people to raise money and deliver a message are skills which can’t be learned mechanically.
There’s a reason not many scientists run for office because it’s so far out of our comfort zone.  I can do and learn a lot of things but sadly sociability will never be one of them. So that’s enough politics for me.
Good luck to everyone running in #NY19."
Brisee, who is 27, was running on a promise “to keep big banks in check and  brighten our future.” Although he claimed to reside within the 19th  Congressional district, the Times Herald-Record reported that the address he gave them “doesn’t appear to exist.”

Brisee, who describes himself as a “Hudson Valley native, Comedian, Scientist [and] Compliance Surveillance Policy Architect,” announced his resignation from the race on Twitter.

The race goes on

The 19th district is located in the Hudson Valley and Catskills regions of New York state.

With Brisee exiting the race, there are still six Democrats left vying for the chance to challenge Republican Rep. John Faso for his seat in 2018. They include Jeffrey Beals of Woodstock, David Clegg of Woodstock, Antonio Delgado of Rhinebeck, Brian Flynn of Elka Park, Gareth Rhodes of Kerhonkson, and Pat Ryan of Gardiner.
